“Kids: they dance before they learn there is anything that isn’t music” – William Stafford
Childhood is an improvisational masterpiece. An adventure of self expression, wonder and excitement. Huge smiles, big hugs and contagious laughter.
Childhood is so fleeting. Photographs supplement our memory and bring us right back to an exact moment. These photographs remind us of our children’s journey – each one memorable and unique.
Miles loves trains, he is soft spoken and a mini dare devil.
Clara loves hello kitty, pretty dresses and being adventurous.
I look at these pictures and see who they are. I see Clara’s reflection in the train and I imagine a big sister looking at her little brother about to jump on a train. When they are older, she is going to remember how much fun he had, how much he enjoyed playing with trains sitting on his bedroom floor, day after day. He will remember her carrying her Hello Kitty everywhere with her. Mom and Dad will remember how cute their kids were when they were 2 and 5. When the kids are heading off to college, the parents will look at this picture and say something about remembering how small they were, “where has all the time gone”?.
I get choked up thinking of these beautiful moments. I think of my kids every time I see one of our edited family sessions. I think of how fast they are growing. I think of all their little quirks. Their innocence. Their beauty. Their huge hearts. I think how happy this mom and dad will be when they look back at these pictures and remember this day like it was yesterday.
That’s what it’s all about. I just love photographs that define childhood.
