Our trip to the Bay area was too short as usual. The reason for the trip to San Francisco was business. A few family and children’s portrait sessions and then we had family time. We really love this area. What is there not to love? Great friends. Beautiful scenery. Amazing (vegan) food around every corner. Beaches. Museums. Just lots of great things to do with the kids.
This trip to San Francisco the kids wanted to visit Chinatown. We stopped in at the Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory. Located on a side alley in a nondescript building, we actually walked right by it. But it is worth the stop. I guess I never thought too hard about how fortune cookies are made. But the whole family found it quite interesting. The factory sold delicious warm cookies and a flat version (before they fold them into the traditional shape) for just a few dollars. A great little souvenir.
But little Miss Gabs was in her glory walking around Chinatown. One gift shop after another. She has two favorite things on a trip: gifts shops and animals. If they both intersect, even better. She had a blast looking through all the shops, trying to decide what souvenir she was going to choose. She ended up with a jade-like little elephant. Isabella chose a light blue traditional Chinese dress. She immediately put it on in the shop where we bought it. She was so pleased with the dress. She looked so beautiful.
A few other highlights from the trip included a light dinner at the SoMa StrEAT Food Park (a new permanent food-truck pod – so many delicious choices!), a trip to Stinson Beach (and some delicious homemade empanadas at The Lunch Box, walking distance from the beach), lunch with friends that included an amazing fried tofu sandwich with to die for coleslaw from Bakesale Betty (rumor is they serve 900 sandwiches a day!), a visit to The Marine Mammal Center in Marin County (they rescue and rehabilitate sick and injured marine animals – this place is awesome!) and a trip to a beautiful rocky beach in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area just near Sausalito.
Oh and I forgot to mention that the weather was just perfect. Can’t wait to get back!
