  • Welcome to Our Journal

Keith is a photographer who believes that kids are nearly perfect and that great images capture a bit of that perfection for all eternity. He loves that children don’t filter their emotions. Living loud is their power. And his job is to capture a moment of their uncontained imaginations: your children, unscripted.

Melissa is the studio manager, adoring wife, busy mom and occasional writer that believes she is living the most beautiful life in the whole world.

Keith and Melissa have two amazing daughters, Isabella and Gabriella and a little Jack Russell named Pooch.

This journal is our personal blog about our family, photography, travel and how we are inspired by children in all their authenticity, one beautiful photograph at a time.

Boys will be boys | Phoenix Children’s Photographer

A fun family session in Phoenix. Boy these boys have energy. And Keith was able to capture it! Lots of running, sliding, playing, joking, more running, sliding, playing. A family session that reflects who this family is. That’s what is so fun about improvisational photography. Let the kids be themselves and photograph them doing it. Fun for everyone involved. And of course the end result are photos of these boys being who they really are. These parents will look back on these photos years down the road and be taken right back to that park, that day. They will remember how much fun they used to have when their boys were small. Great memories. Honored to capture them.

This is why improvisational photography is so superior to the old fashion “posed” photos. They tell a story and capture memories. The studio posed pictures now seem to be such a thing of the past. You see how pretty or handsome the child was at a particular age but it’s one dimentional. The school photos they bring home each year can do that. I don’t know the families you post but I always enjoy looking at them.

If my memory serves me correctly, this might be our 5th session with this amazing family. I know we started with I think maternity photos for their first born son and have been good about doing annual photos since then. These boys just get cuter and cuter with each passing year! Hard to believe we put little boy #2 at his newborn session on a book shelf. He was so tiny – and now he’s running on train tracks! Time passes entirely too quickly!

Downtown Phoenix is the perfect backdrop for a family session – the kids just have a blast with all the fun stuff to do.

I’ve been to Sicily. Sicily in July is going to be really hot. Pretty much like Phoenix, though, so of course you’re used to it. Just remember to bring your sunscreen and a nice big hat! :)

Happy Spring | Another week flies by!

our kids instagram

I’m trying to make this a regular enough post. So much happens during the course of the day and with the glory of instagram, I find it fun to share what the family did over the past week. Some things make it onto facebook and others don’t but rather than trap these photos on my phone, I’m sharing them with the world.

Gabby peering out the window at night is from a trip to Burton Barr Library in Phoenix for the Kids in Focus exhibit. She adores this place, the library is hers and boy does she take full advantage. Devouring books. I took this photo because it is exactly who she is as a kid. Just like the photo of her on a swing on a beautiful spring evening, she just grabs life and lives it. Whether it be the library or the park or a climb up Papago. Nothing happens without passion in her life. I can’t wait to see what her future holds!

My beautiful Isabella decided she wanted a streak in her hair. She was so proud of her peachy pink streak – I know I’m not the only mom out there that just thinks their kids are just so damn cute. Seeing how happy and proud she was with this streak, sometimes it’s the smallest little things that mean so much. She fills my heart I just love her so.

The week was sandwiched by a hike with cousin Ava at Piestewa Peak and a family hike at Papago. The weather is incredible right now and it is just a matter of time it will be as hot as hades and we will need to hide from the hot, hot sun! During the week, a lovely lunch out with my sweetie – the Taco Guild is delicious. Bumpy turned 70 and the kids each made him a very special brownie cake. Glad he loves chocolate! Caught Keith editing some negatives. And Isabella’s swim club in moving to a new location. Last day at this very special pool.

Hard to believe it is already the end of March. Happy Spring!

I love east coast beaches! Well I guess I love all beaches but when we are back east I get very nostalgic for these beautiful stretches of sand along the Atlantic. Born in Rhode Island, raised in and around Boston and living most of my adult life in NYC, I have had the good fortune of spending my fair share of time on these beaches.

For those of you that aren’t familiar, the Hamptons are where New Yorkers go in the summer. Manhattan empties during July and August and the adorable little towns that dot this stretch of Long Island swell with city dwellers looking for an escape.

It’s been awhile but I think back to many summer Friday afternoons jumping on the Hampton Jitney and heading out to South Hampton. Traffic. Traffic. Traffic. If I was smart, I’d jump on the Long Island Railroad after work and arrive in the middle of the night. Not very glamorous way to get out there but efficient.

Regardless of how you arrive, it is beautiful. Quaint is really not a good enough description of the towns. They are just so perfect. Great restaurants. Farmer’s Markets. Boutiques. The beaches are serene and very rarely overcrowded. Worth the 5 hour ride that in the off season would take half the time.

I love the energy and sheer cuteness of these two little girls! What fun. The beach is such a great spot for a family session. Kids being kids!

This family portrait session began at their home and ended at beautiful Quoque beach. It’s always nice to document the family’s story. Or at least,

  • their summer story!

Wonderful pictures of a beautiful family. The unposed action photos tell the story of what the family was doing this day, this year. When they look back at them years later they will be able to relive it, not just how they looked but what they did. Great job!
