  • Welcome to Our Journal

Keith is a photographer who believes that kids are nearly perfect and that great images capture a bit of that perfection for all eternity. He loves that children don’t filter their emotions. Living loud is their power. And his job is to capture a moment of their uncontained imaginations: your children, unscripted.

Melissa is the studio manager, adoring wife, busy mom and occasional writer that believes she is living the most beautiful life in the whole world.

Keith and Melissa have two amazing daughters, Isabella and Gabriella and a little Jack Russell named Pooch.

This journal is our personal blog about our family, photography, travel and how we are inspired by children in all their authenticity, one beautiful photograph at a time.

…reading Fodor’s Around Paris with Kids – getting very excited about spending the month of July in Paris

…Isabella trying her hardest to convince me, Keith, my mom, my sister, my sister’s husband, Keith’s mom, Keith’s mom’s friend, a family friend and anyone else who crossed her path to adopt one of the bunnies from school. It was endearing, but with a Jack Russell at home, the bunny’s life expectancy would be a few days. An A for effort, she did not want to take no for an answer.

happy birthday baby m | birth photographers scottsdale

The beauty of childbirth astounds me. That bump that you have carried around for 40 weeks you can now hold in your arms. You had ultrasounds so you sort of thought you kind of had an idea what your little one looked like. But then you actually get to hold this warm little bundle and you are overcome by the reality that you are really holding this tiny little gorgeous human. Love, love, love. In love. Immediately.

Well to be able to photograph a baby’s birth story for someone is an absolute honor.

This family is so special. We were smiling when they decided that they wanted Keith to photograph Miss M’s birth day. We had a set back, the obstetrician did not want the actual birth photographed – but was ok with Keith photographing everything else that was going on leading up to the birth and right after the birth. Even without the live birth, we ended up with a beautiful documentary of their baby’s birth story.

We have shared a handful of photos that were taken that early morning at Scottsdale Healthcare’s Family Birthing Suites; an overview of the birth story. While watching the slideshow that we presented to the proud parents, I couldn’t help but be filled with emotion, tears running down my face – I am just so amazed by the power of photography when capturing life’s moments.

Thank you D + M for allowing us to share your precious little baby’s birth story and allowing us to be part of such a special time in your lives.

A parent’s love is whole no matter how many times divided – Robert Brault

Photographing weddings is an honor. The images you take on a wedding day are forever part of the couple’s history. The ultimate honor: photographing the bride and groom + a new member of their family.

This past week, Keith had the good fortune of meeting Miss Maya – the new member of this loving family. Mom and Dad were married several years ago at the Royal Palms Resort here in Phoenix, a destination wedding of sorts since they call New York City home. Fast forward almost 3 years, this couple has returned to Arizona +1, with Maya making her desert debut.

A mom and dad interacting with their new baby is such a natural and beautiful thing to see. I can completely understand that overwhelming love you have as you grasp her little finger or look into her beautiful eyes. You could do it forever.

A true honor to capture these moments.

danielle daniel – she paints stories | unscripted portrait photographers

Yesterday, I had a few precious moments alone (yes, alone without children!) at Barnes & Noble. I was flipping through a magazine and came across the above artist, Danielle Daniel. I just love her style and her message: She paints stories. With the camera, Keith tells stories through photographs. So many mediums, so many great artists.

I know she has an etsy shop where she sells some of her art, paintings and art dolls. I think I might inquire and see if she does custom work.

How cute would one of these paintings be of your own children?

Here’s a few words about the artist taken from her website: Danielle Daniel is a self-taught multi-media artist and writer. She is inspired by unwritten stories and the layers in between. Since picking up the paintbrush in 2010, she has painted more than 500 paintings. Danielle paints the feminine and expresses her own femininity throughout her artwork. She no longer wears her teacher pants to work, trading them in for her jeans, painting apron and converse shoes.
